Return to the West End

FILM actor Michael Sheen is set to return to the West End stage, the Post can reveal.

The Port Talbot actor is due to star in dramatic play Inadmissible Evidence for a four-month run.

Michael will take on the role of William Maitland, a middle-aged English solicitor who has come to hate his life.

The two-act play sees the protagonist evaluate his life of drinking and meaningless affairs as his world begins to fall apart.

Rehearsals for the play are set to begin in January, with the glitzy opening night set for February.


The role will see Michael — who lives in LA — based in London for a large part of next year alongside his long- term partner Lorraine Stewart.

And it will see Michael return to the West End just three years after starring in the stage version of Frost/Nixon at the Gielgud Theatre in 2006.

Inadmissible Evidence was first staged in London in 1964, with Nicol Williamson as Maitland, who won a Tony award for his performance when it transferred to Broadway. In 1968 it was made into a film, which also starred Eileen Atkins.

Michael's run in Theatreland will come just months after he is set to work in Swansea on comedy flick Submarine.

The Post revealed exclusively in June how Hollywood star Ben Stiller is set to work with Michael on the project as executive producer.

The film also stars Paddy Considine and will be directed by The IT Crowd actor Richard Ayoade.

And in November, fans of Michael will be able to catch him in both Twilight film New Moon and Unthinkable.
